These images were all taken during a weekend at the Caerlaverock WWT reserve near Dumfries in late November 2016. The 'Winter Wildlife Weekend' was organised and led by Steve and Ann Toon  - and was great fun! We were very lucky with the weather, waking up on Saturday morning to a thick frost which persisted through a beautiful sunny day. We were treated to an hour or so's entertainment as the Whooper swans took off from a frozen Folly Pond where they had roosted overnight to head back to their daytime haunt on the Whooper Pond. The large flocks of barnacle geese provided many opportunites to try polish up my 'bird in flight' skills. Sunday was not as bright, but again I started by watching the swans take off - this time from a hide right under their flightpath. Caerlaverock is certainly  great location for photography at this time of year.
