May 2018

Two years after entering my first images to the International Salon circuit I was pleased this month to receive confirmation of my award of the AFIAP Distinction - by amassing enough acceptances & awards to satisfy the criteria set out by FIAP.

Havana restoration projectsI have just recently plucked up courage to start submitting some images to the International Salons circuit. My first try was some DPIs to the Bristol Salon, where I was pleased to get a couple of acceptances. I followed this up with sending 16 prints to the GB Small Prints Circuit, which is judged by three Salons (Solway, Carlisle & Hoylake). I was very pleased to get 7 acceptances from Solway, including full marks (15/15) and a Members Award for this image I called "Havana restoration projects". Interestingly it wasn't even accepted at Carlisle - though I did get five acceptances there and a further two from Hoylake.

I have been elected (well really I was the only volunteer) as chairman of my Photography Club - Stokesley Photographic Society - for the coming year. It's a great bunch of people and we have an interesting programme of talks and competitions. If you live near Stokesley come along and join us at the Town Hall on Thursday evenings (from September).

LRPS hanging planI attended the RPS Licentiateship assessment day at Backworth Hall, Newcastle today - and after a rather nervous morning was very chuffed to hear that my panel of 10 images (as per the Hanging Plan shown here) was judged to be acceptable, and I am now (or at least will be once the decision is formally ratified) the proud recipient of an LRPS.

Suckling baby elephant published in BBC Wildlife magazineA (very!) small copy of this image of a baby elephant taking a drink from its mum was published in this month's edition (May 2014, page 112) of the BBC Wildlife magazine. I had entered it onto the online contest  a little while ago and fogotten about it until I got an email from the magazine. It is always nice to see an image in print!

The first walk (Kildale Circular) has been added in the Walks section. Let me know if you have any favourite walks locally that you think would be good candiates for sharing with other photographers

My new website is now ready for publishing! I have rebuilt the site from scratch, replacing the previous version that ran under the Clikpic design, in order to give myself more flexibility - and to allow me to incorprate the new Walks section. I would welcome any comments (or notifications of things that aren't working!) via the 'Contacts' page.
